The sector still trades on attention, but the strongest communities are adding distribution, products and rights.
Liquidity remains the dominant scoreboard in memecoins, but it is not the only form of value being built.
As the category moves closer to mainstream consumer culture, brand durability is becoming more important.
CoinDesk's 2024 coverage popularized the phrase "memecoin supercycle" as the sector outperformed on the back of social communities and market attention. Decrypt and Cointelegraph coverage of PEPE, WIF and BONK routinely focused on volume, retail enthusiasm and virality. Those are still the core inputs; brand durability is becoming an additional one.
Mumu the Bull illustrates the shift.
The character emerged from 4chan’s /biz/ culture in 2018 and became associated with a simple financial idea: bullish conviction in opposition to the bear. That gave Mumu years of cultural distribution before the current project began formalizing the character as a commercial brand.
IP Australia lists MUMU as Application 2682039, published and awaiting examination. The project also identifies MUMU THE BULL as Application 2682957. The stated scope covers digital media and NFT-authenticated works, apparel and entertainment branding.
Trademark applications should not be confused with granted registrations, but they can represent the beginning of a more durable brand structure.
The distinction matters because the economics of a recognizable character can extend beyond token markets.
Consumer brands generate value through licensing, merchandise, media, partnerships and recurring recognition. An internet-native character can theoretically do the same if ownership is clear enough for outside parties to work with it.
The advantage of legacy memes is that some of the demand-generation work has already happened organically.
Mumu did not need a corporate campaign to become associated with bullishness. The internet supplied that context over years.
The project is also building during the early life of Robinhood Chain. Robinhood’s Layer 2 moved from a June 2025 announcement to public testnet in February 2026 and mainnet in July 2026. This gives early communities a chance to influence how the ecosystem is perceived.
Seen together, Mumu’s strategy is less about one catalyst than about stacking durable assets: historical recognition, early-chain positioning and a formal IP pathway.
The memecoin market will continue to trade on attention.
The projects that survive longest may be the ones that learn how to convert attention into something harder to copy.
